You can enjoy a Homemade Shamrock Shake any time of year with this easy recipe. In fact, if you try the boozy adult version you might just think it’s St. Patrick’s Day even when it’s not.

This recipe makes me happy because there are two things on McDonald’s menu that I’ll never give up: French fries and Shamrock Shakes.

Wait, make that one thing now that I know how to make Homemade Shamrock Shakes.

Homemade Shamrock Shakes for St. Patricks Day

Homemade Shamrock Shake Recipe

For those unfamiliar with the McD’s version: the Shamrock Shake is a seasonal, bright green offering that arrives in early March and disappears from McDonald’s menu roughly one month later.

That is if you can find it at all: corporate HQ does not require franchisees to carry it, and some opt out because it slows the line down. As a result, there are entire websites devoted to helping people find the elusive Shamrock Shake!

Now when I get a craving for this thick and creamy mint shake, I walk to my kitchen and whip one up. Unlike a trip to McDonald’s, I don’t even have to change out of my pajamas.

There’s an Adult Version, Too!

If you’re serving this for a St. Patrick’s Day party, check out the boozy version in the recipe below. It’ll have you talking in a bad Irish brogue before you can say “Top o’ the mornin’!”

One of my very favorite things about homemade shamrock shakes is that I never have to worry about hearing “Sorry, our ice cream machine is broken.” I don’t know why, but it seems like McDonald’s ice cream machines are always broken. Maybe they need to find a different manufacturer?

Or maybe they just want you to try my recipe for Homemade Shamrock Shakes. Enjoy!
