One of the keys to good homemaking is knowing how to shop smart, and that’s why I’ve decided to create an entirely new category for the blog based on honest product reviews — the first new category since the day I established HousewifeHowTos.com!
As a homemaker, it’s not surprising that I buy a lot of cleaning tools, kitchen gadgets, housewares, and other items that make life clean, comfortable, or convenient. As a blogger, it’s probably not surprising that I (very) occasionally get free stuff to review from companies hoping I’ll rave about their products.
But as a person who also reads other blogs, I get incredibly irritated when I read rave reviews of a product and buy it only to find that I just wasted my money — but, hey, that blogger made theirs. Listen, I value your repeated visits here more than the piddly amount any company might pay to get me to review a product they’ll stop selling next week when everyone realizes how awful it is.
I really don’t get many free products to review, and that might be due to the fact that I don’t hesitate to call a dud a dud. (Exhibit A: my Amazon.com reviews where you’ll also know if I got a product for free… and will see that getting it for free doesn’t make me rave.)
Most importantly, I’ve got a budget to watch just like you do. Yes, I want to know about great stuff but I also want to know if it’s really as great as it seems.
That’s why I’ve launched the “Shop Smart” category for the blog: so I can share with you the products I’ve tried and give you my honest assessment. If they work, I’ll tell you. If they work but have limitations, I’ll tell you that, too. If I received the product for free, or was paid to write a review, I will also tell you that — but I’ll still give my honest assessment. Hey, I have to sleep at night and there are few things I value more than a clean conscience!
In the future you’ll find this category filled with those product reviews, along with how-to videos (where needed). If there’s a DIY alternative, I’ll let you know.
If it’s not worth your money, I’ll be sure to point that out as well. I’ll also share time-limited sales posts here which will disappear once the sale is over. For instance, if a product is on sale this week at one of my trusted sources, I’ll tell you about it. If I have a review to add, I’ll add it so you know if it’s really a good deal. For items I haven’t personally tried, I will say so and the listing will disappear once the sale ends.
Should you have a question about the integrity of my reviews, or have a bad experience with a product that I’ve recommended, please contact me so I can fix it. I’m not a substitute for your own personal research, nor am I a consumer’s review group or business bureau, but if you’ve had a bad experience with a product I recommended then I want others to know your side, too.
In the meantime, shop smart fellow homemakers!
