9 Surprising Things you can Clean in the Dishwasher

Put your dishwasher to work cleaning things around your home.

1. Kitchen Sponges & Produce Brushes

Put them on the top rack or in the utensil caddy. Be sure to let them cool off after to avoid burns.

2. Ziplock Bags

Turn them inside out and slip them over the top rack prongs. Remove before the drying cycle and towel dry.

3. Microwave Splatter Covers & Turntables

Put turntables on the bottom rack and splatter covers on top. You can use splatter covers to keep small items in place, too.

4. Refrigerator Shelves & Drawers

Let them reach room temperature first for 10-15 minutes to avoid cracks. Then put shelves on the bottom rack and draweres on top.

5. Silicone Baking Mats

Drape baking mats over the prongs of your top rack. Weigh the edges down with glasses or other dishes.

6. Kitchen Trivets (Not wood)

Metal and tile trivets can go on either rack, but plastic ones need to go on the top rack only. Never wash wood trivets in the dishwasher.

7. Utensil Drawer Inserts

Shake out all the crumbs then put the insert face-down on your top rack to get the compartments clean.

8. Sink Strainers

Strainers get grimy and attract pests. Put them on top rack of dishwasher, or in the utensil caddy.

9. Range Hood Filters

Grease-filled range hoods are fire hazards. Clean them on the top rack of dishwasher.
